But fans of Swansea City need not worry because he has no plans to leave the Swans for pastures new – he already believes he is playing in one of the toughest leagues in Europe.

Eleven clean sheets this season have been overlooked with Holland manager Bert Van Marwijk trying to persuade Edwin Van Der Sar out of international retirement rather than considering players playing outside the top divisions.

De Vries said “When I look at the other keepers in the squad I think I am good enough to be involved.

“But I’m not in the picture and it’s really frustrating.   I’d love to have a shot at the national team.  The coach isn’t considering me because I’m playing in the Championship.

“In Holland they like their international players to be playing at the highest level.  Look at the Dutch team the players come from the biggest clubs in Europe like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Arsenal.  Other players are with Ajax and PSV.

“If I was playing in a top division I would have a chance.  Glenn Loovens was playing really well in the Championship for Cardiff but never got called up now he’s playing for Celtic he makes the squad.

“The Championship is much harder.  I’ve spoken to the other Dutch players at Swansea like Cedric Van Der Gun and he agrees witrh me.  The Championship is one of the toughest leagues in Europe.  I’m probably in th ebest form of my caree I’m more mature now.”
