The Swansea City manager pulled his captain away from the referee at the end of the game and Monk took no part in the post game huddle that has become the norm amongst the Swans.

But despite that Sousa insisted that there was no rift between him and Monk and that he had pulled him away as he did not want to see him shaking the referee’s hand.

Speaking to the Evening Post after the game, Sousa said “There was no disagreement with Garry

“The referee did not respect us so we won’t show respect to him.

“Garry was going to shake his hand but I told him not to.

“It’s not an issue between us. There are no problems so you should not create any.

Huddle

“He was not in the huddle, but next time he will be there.

“Probably they (referees) don’t like to see us where we are in the table,” Sousa added.

“The red card was ridiculous.

“I saw it on the pitch and I have seen it five or six times. He was sent off for violent conduct and that’s completely ridiculous.

“You can talk and you can write thing (reports) to try to help the referees improve, but this is something we have to look at because if not, the game will be killed.

“We try to have respect for referees when we see respect for our work.

“We train hard all week and we try to play football always, this is our style. But we have to have quality referees.

“My father taught me when I was young that you always have to have respect, but only if the other people respect you too.

“All we can do is be strong, and we are strong. We have to rise above these things and be a fantastic team with a lot of personality.”
