Pratley Opts Out Of Contract Talks

Pratley was invited by manager Brendan Rodgers to discuss a new contract but at present has declined the offer and elected to leave talks for now.

Rodgers told the Evening Post “After talks broke down in the summer I wanted to let it be for a few months so Darren could concentrate on his football

“I spoke to him again last week in relation to the contract offer, but he still wants to leave it for now so we will take it from there and see where we are at the end of the season.

“I think one thing Darren has seen is that the club are moving forward. He wanted to see that and hopefully people can see that the next two or three seasons are going to be exciting here.

“But I understand his situation. Like a lot of players, he feels this is a big contract for him. But he is a good lad and there are no problems with him.

“Darren has had a lot going on this year, and no doubt the decision on his contract will not have been easy for him mentally,” Rodgers added.

“But he is a terrific professional. He lives for football, he trains hard and he looks after himself, and I like that.

“He has put the contract situation to one side and he is up to playing every game. He has got attributes which mean that like the others, he will get better and better as the season goes on.

“If I had any worries about his commitment or anything like that, then there would be a problem.

“But he has still got the same desire and he wants to do well for this football club.”
