Monk Fitness Boost For Swansea

The Swansea City captain hobbled out of the 4-0 win over Colchester at the weekend amid fears that his season could be over.ย  But initial prognosis said just three months and now we are down to six to eight weeks absence for the influential Monk.

Monk had a consultation with knee specialist Jonathan Webb yesterday and told the club’s official site “I should be back within six to eight weeks,

“I am still not happy to be out injured, but considering I thought I would be out for nine months, this is a good result for me. It’s bitter sweet.

“I knew something was wrong straightaway because the player’s weight went straight on my leg. Then I started to worry because the knee went lax, which happens when you do your cruciate.

“You always think about the worst-case scenario, but thankfully it wasn’t that.

“I think he (Webb) was more excited than me because there was no damage to the area he repaired,” joked Monk. “The only damage was to the bit of the knee he didn’t have to repair.

“Now I’ve got to work hard to get back as soon as possible, hopefully by the end of February or beginning of March.

“It’s going to be a massive end of season because we have a great chance to do something special. I want to be part of that.”
