The Swansea City skipper returned to action two weeks ago against Nottingham Forest and could find himself back in the starting line up against Preston North End this weekend.
And Monk told the Evening Post "It's an exciting time," says Garry Monk, a veteran of seven Swansea campaigns.
"If we could get to the top league, it would be a dream come true. After all the hard work, it would be the best thing ever for the club and for me personally.
"But it's not just us who are thinking like that. All the teams who are up there will be feeling exactly the same.
"They will be thinking that if they can just do well this month, they can do it.
"I came in a year after the Hull game, although I feel like I played after speaking about it with the fans so much," Monk adds. "I played with a lot of the players who had been involved, so I know all about it. And when I came to Swansea, we were still in the bottom league, so I have seen it all.
"I am proud to have come up through the leagues with the club. Now we have a chance to take the final step. The way we play is fine, there's no problem there.
"If we can just step up a notch mentally over the next few weeks, we will be all right.
"Obviously I hope to get back into the side, but I wouldn't say I expect to," he says.
"I will be pushing as hard as I can to get in there, but whatever team the gaffer picks, the players in there are going to merit being on the pitch.
"The other lads have done well while I've been out and I take my hat off to them. We have tended to do that over the years. We know each other well and that helps.
"If I am back in the side tomorrow then great, but if not I will just try to get into the next one. I will push myself and try to push the boys.
"Seriously, this is the last month of the season and I think all the boys realise it's not about individuals now.
"We'll be doing whatever we can to push the team on and trying to get to where we want to be.
"If we can get there, it will benefit us all in the end."
