Huw – There’s No Need For Anyone To Leave

The Swansea City Chairman has been at the helm for the rise from the bottom to the top division and whilst he insists that the philosophy will not change in the Premier League he adds that people do not need to look to move on with the club having no need to cash in on it's star assets.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Jenkins said “Getting promoted is what everybody here wanted, and now we’re there, the aim is for Brendan to strengthen the squad to make sure we’re competitive.

“But that also means we don’t want to lose anyone. And we are now in a position where, financially, we do not have to sell.

“But the other side to that is, now we’re in the Premier League, there is also no need for players to move on to anywhere else unless you’re talking about a club in the top three or four who play in the Champions League and collectively have the majority of the power in the Premier.

“We will do what we always do and work within the structures we have,” he said. “But we also know that we do have a big advantage to other clubs where we do not have to use any of the new money coming in to go towards massive debts, interest charges or bank fees. We will work to our budgets, but we know we can spend what we have got to spend.

“I don’t know where some of the stories come from because there has been no contact regarding Ash and not one conversation – and it’s not something we’d welcome.

“Moving, or the thought of moving, can be generated by people – but that’s the reality of where we are,” he said. “You see it month after month with the Premier League, you’re going to get speculation about players. That’s what happens these days and we’re not unique in that sense.

“In fact, perhaps we should enjoy the fact that the name of Swansea City is being mentioned more than it has been.

“But players here are not dull. Many of them have experienced playing at other clubs and I think they recognise they have found somewhere that works well for them and I believe everybody is 100% committed to seeing how we do next season.

“Bringing in players is our priority, added Jenkins.

“We’ve got quite a few options we’re looking at and perhaps a few other main targets before that really and we’re working to try and bring them in as quick as we can.”
