Swans Boss Urges Calm Over Bodde’s Comeback

After just 4 appearances in 2 years, there is much anticipation over the Dutchman's return, with many believing the 28 year old is capable of starring in the Premier League.

But Rodgers is urging for the pressure to be taken off Bodde's shoulders, with a competitive comeback unlikely until a few weeks into the season.

"Ferrie will not be at the stage where he is ready to play at the beginning of the season," the Swans bost told the Evening Post.

"He is fit to train — he will be coming to Austria with us next week — but his plan will be different from the others.

"Ferrie is coming on day by day, he is working hard, but he is nowhere near playing yet.

"I don't know when Ferrie will play — there's no timeline on it at all.

"I don't want to rush him and I don't want the media to rush him.

"There's a lot of pressure in the Premier League anyway and, if he keeps getting asked when he will be back playing, there is psychological pressure on him.

"It's great that everyone wants to see him back, but it's important that he doesn't feel the pressure.

"He is a big talent for this club and that's why I don't want to rush him.

"If he gets rushed back into the team and breaks down again then things could be difficult for him.

"Technically and tactically he has worked very, very well in training and physically he has looked good.

"But he needs more work to improve the strength in his knee, and at the same time we are giving him the support that will help him mentally.

"An injury like that can scar you, especially when you come back and break down.

"We are giving him all our support and all the time he needs.

"So hopefully, when he comes back, he will be physically right and mentally right.

"Hopefully then the supporters will get to see the Ferrie Bodde they know."
