We’ll Handle Pace – Vorm

Michel Vorm insists that the Swans will handle the pace that goes with their Premier League place.

Vorm was man of the match on Monday night as they opened their campaign with a 4-0 defeat at the Ethiad Stadium but there was enough positives to suggest that there are better days ahead.

“The tempo is so high, my whole body was hurting afterwards.” Vorm told the Western Mail

“I’ve never played in a match like that or with the same kind of atmosphere before.

“We lost 4-0, but it was an OK match for me. I have played in some big matches in the last year with Utrecht and Holland and it helped me through the game.

“My relationship with the back four will only improve as times goes by.

“This is the reason why I signed for Swansea. I want to play in big games.

“We played well for the first 25 minutes and we said at half-time that we wanted to create more chances,” said Vorm.

“We hoped we could surprise them a little bit but in the second half after the first 10 minutes they scored and we were tired.

“Aguero came on and he made the difference, but it was harsh to concede four goals.

“I think the third goal was over the (dead ball) line. We made some little mistakes and, if you do that at Premier League level, then they kill you.

“Man City are a very good team. They had a lot of quality on the bench and if we picked up a draw or a win, it would have been a bonus.

“It’s no shame to lose this sort of match and it is a good lesson for us. Saturday is much more important.

“The concentration levels are so high You can’t compare it with the Eredivisie.

“We play better football here, one or two touches. Kemy Agustien told me about the club and there’s a lot of good players here.

“We have a good, high-quality squad and people can see that Swansea has a good team from Wales who play good football.

“I came to Swansea and people said they were not a big club, but I knew they were in the Premier League.

“I know they play good football and have a good manager.

“We played well for 60 minutes against a top side, but if we play for longer, 70 and 80 minutes, then we’ll be fine.

“We will win games and pick up the points.

“We lost this game, but we have a good chance of staying in the Premier League.

“I’m confident we can stay up. If we create more chances and realise not everyone has the same quality as Manchester City, then Saturday against Wigan is a good start to win a game.

“Brendan has a good mentality,” he said.

“He talks to you and makes you feel like you are the best in the world.

“It is very important for the guys. I spoke with him a couple of times and he impressed me very much.

“We have to play against Wigan like we started against Manchester City, get the crowd behind us and get the points.

“A lot of clubs will come to Swansea and be afraid of us.”
