Brendan Rodgers says that this Saturday will be a great day for the club and the city as Man Utd come to town
Rodgers told the Evening Post “Manchester United are the biggest club in the world
“They’ve got a wonderful history and it’s going to be a great day for the city when we entertain such a great club.
“But we’re not a fearful group — we have a great belief in what we do.
“We accept any challenges and Manchester United, the current league champions, present us with a great challenge.
“I was at Manchester United as a youngster and I had friends that joined later on,” said the Swansea manager. “Since my time there as a young boy, when I used to travel over from Ireland, I’ve always kept my eye on them.
“Chelsea were the side that broke the Arsenal-Manchester United domination and I was fortunate to be at the club at that time.
“At the time Chelsea were a rival to Manchester United, but if you look at what they’ve done since then, they embraced that challenge.
“They had to find ways of combating us and they did that — they won the title back a couple of times.
“I don’t think you can view them with anything but respect,” added Rodgers.
“They’ve consistently been winners.
“From our point of view, psychologically, to go to a club like Liverpool, to a ground like Anfield and get a point will give the players great confidence.
“We’re a team that has grown to this level so that was an important moment for the mentality of the group.
“That will hopefully bode well for us going forward.”
