Dobbie – I Never Doubt Myself

Stephen Dobbie understands why he has to be content at the moment with appearances from the subs bench

Dobbie’s starting appearances have been limited this season partly due to the outstanding form of Joe Allen, Leon Britton and Mark Gower in the team.

But he has enough confidence in his ability to wait for the chance and believe that he will take it when it comes around.

He told the Evening Postย “I never doubt myself

“The way the boys are playing at the moment is fantastic, so when I get my chance I’ll be ready to take it.

“I’m still signed for another year after this and I’m in the same situation as last year.

“I’m part of the squad and trying to get myself back into the team.

“I did the same last year. I didn’t play at the start and just worked hard, scored in the reserve games and waited for my chance and it worked out fantastically.

“We’ve got a great squad so you’ve got to work hard to get in it.

“I started training a couple of weeks ago and then I had the break with the internationals on,” said Dobbie.

“I had little twinges but I came through the reserve games well.

“I’m ready if I’m called upon.

“Everyone wants to play and be involved.

“I watched Match of the Day and the boys were fantastic,” said Dobbie. “I was injured so I was in working and trying to get back to fitness.

“Games like that are the whole point of why we got promoted last season.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s Liverpool or any other team in the Premier League, you want to be involved in every game.

“Even if it wasn’t before a game with Manchester United, I would still have been out there for the reserves trying my best to get on to the bench at least.”

That was the case earlier this week, when Dobbie did his hopes of being selected for Sunday’s match against Aston Villa no harm as he scored against Chelsea’s reserves in a 1-1 draw.

“It’s the reason I’m here, to play football,” he said. “Hopefully I can play a part this week.

“All you can do is try to do your best and then it’s up to the manager.”
