Alex McLeish has urged his Aston Villa side to forget about their win at Stamford Bridge and concentrate on the Swans visit
McLeish saw his side chalk up an impressive 3-1 win at Chelsea on Saturday and now looks to create a New Year double by ย defeating the Swans this afternoon.
He told their official websiteย “Swansea are in a rich vein of form. They are a good side and we will certainly not underestimate them just because we have beaten Chelsea.
“That counts for nothing. The best thing we can do now is go and win this game on the back of the victory at Stamford Bridge.
“Swansea at Villa Park is now the most important game for us. In fact, the Swansea game becomes even more important now.
“The three points against Chelsea emphasises how important it is to win a home game in front of our own fans who I thought were magnificent at Stamford Bridge.
“We’re certainly not counting ourย chickens! Theย one thing about football is that when you think you’re doing well you get aย kick in the teeth.
“I’ve always been one to keep my feet onย the ground. That’s whatย I’ve asked the players to do and make sure they’re 100% ready for Swansea. We need to be physically and mentally ready for Swansea.
“I saw a steel in the players before they went out. You say ‘go out and believe in yourselves’ but that’s easy to say. Can they take that on?
“Teams can go to places like Chelsea and freeze. You can look in someone’s eyes and think ‘He doesn’t really believe he can win here.’ I didn’t see that in my players. They had that steel.
“I think the Stoke game gave them plenty of confidence in terms of how resilient they were. They took that on against Chelsea.”
