Newcastle fan Danny Graham will be out to upset Newcastle’s Euro bid when he comes face to face with them on Friday

“I’m a Premier League footballer and it sounds good.” said Graham

“It took a while to sink in. But it comes with pressure. Look at Andy Carroll, he went for £35million – but I’m not under as much pressure as he is.

“It was a big amount, a record signing for Swansea. But my job is always to score goals. That’s why I came here.”

Graham slipped through United’s net as a youngster and ended up at Northern League outfit Chester-le-Street whilst combining his football with his day job in the double glazing business, before Boro handed him a chance during the Steve McClaren era.

McClaren gave Graham his Premier League chance and he grabbed his first top-flight goal against Charlton Athletic.

Graham couldn’t command a first-team place though and loan stints at Derby, Leeds, Carlisle and Blackpool followed.

McClaren’s switch from Boro to the England job resulted in a drop down the leagues to Carlisle on a permanent basis where he got into a real rhythm of goals in League One – netting 29 in 89 games. That paved the way for Graham to end up at Watford, with 38 goals in 91 Championship games sealing a passport to the top flight at Swansea City.

The dream scenario for Danny would be complete with a goal against his beloved Newcastle – but having suffered the curse of Geordie boys coming good against the Magpies, United fans will hope Graham leaves his shooting boots at home.
