Brendan Rodgers declared his players ‘brilliant’ after they demolished Blackburn at the Liberty Stadium

“The players were brilliant today and it was a wonderful performance,” said Brendan. “We thoroughly deserved the three points and earned our 13th clean sheet of the season.

“We’ve had a couple of doubters and critics in the last few weeks and you have to accept that. But we had a team meeting on Thursday and I just wanted to let them know just how good they’ve been.

“But today was always going to be a difficult game. Blackburn have scored a lot of goals, but our control and domination was good and our hunger to win the ball back was incredible.

“And mentally, we passed a big test this afternoon.

“We’re very much one club here,” he said. “It’s not nice to lose four games, but from a learning point of view and going forward – what an experience it’s been.

“It’s been an incredible journey, and you are always going to get adverse moments. But you’ve got to go through that and when you get to the other side, it’s a wonderful place.

“We played well in three out of the four games we lost. Wednesday wasn’t acceptable from my perspective because we didn’t fight.

“The minimum requirement is that we fight, but today you saw what a real team is about.”

Brendan also paid tribute to the opening goal of the game – grabbed by Gylfi Sigurdsson

“It was a wonderful goal,” he said. “We talk a lot in training about shifting and shooting and it’s difficult to tell which is his stronger foot.

“But to beat a keeper of Paul Robinson’s quality – who I thought was outstanding for them – was brilliant, and it was a great strike.

“All three goals were well worked and it was great to keep yet another clean sheet.”
