Brendan Rodgers hailed the Swans fairytale ending as Liverpool were beaten at the Liberty

“It was a fairytale ending,” said Brendan. “In terms of the performance, the players were brilliant. Our work-rate was phenomenal and we were worthy winners.

“Everyone talks about our passing and creativity, but behind all that is a great amount of hunger and work ethic and to achieve 14 clean sheets, is a tremendous achievement.

“But the win finishes what has been a brilliant season and it gives us great hope going forward into next year.

“We have consistently met all the challenges posed this season, in what is the most competitive league in the world,” he said.

“I asked for a party atmosphere before the game, and the resulted capped that off. It was great to see so many smiling faces around the stadium and to see so many people dressed up.

“During the game we had to be patient, but we showed our quality and endeavour and to beat Liverpool, who have many talented players, shows the magnitude of how well they have performed.

“Either way it’s always going to be difficult,” said Brendan. “But that’s the job of me and the players; we have to now go away and get better.

“The challenge is to recycle the squad and to retain the hunger and the ambition within the group.”

“The objective this season was to simply stay in the league and to miss out on 10th place by one goal makes me very proud and that’s great credit to the players.

“We have improvements to make for next season because the challenges will keep on coming. We’ll go away now and recover and get better.

“But, overall, its great reward for the players and for the supporters who have been incredible.”
