Michael Laudrup has said it’s important to him to have players throughout the team who can score goals
“It’s very important for this team to have players who can score goals.” he told the Western Mail
“You cannot just give the responsibility to one or two players and say, ‘We hope these two will score 25’ because you will be a little bit short on that.
“You have to look at many players and ask, ‘What is your average number (of goals)?’
“Then you can make a final number and say we need to find seven or eight more goals from somewhere because otherwise you will need to defend really well. In the end if you don’t score enough goals then you will have problems.
“We have a forward who scored a lot of goals last season and he has a lot of quality. But we are still looking for some players who can go in and not just play one position but also use them in others.
“All managers like to have some versatile players in the squad so you can make some changes from game to game or even during a game.
“My vision is that if you score goals, you will always score goals,” said Laudrup.
“Of course when you are in a different level or a different culture it might take time, but once a goalscorer, always a goalscorer.
“You will have seasons when you score more or less but it is very important for a team to have players who know how to score goals.
“He’s a very tall guy, he can go and help the midfield players or play as a second striker.
“Even in some games you can use him as a first forward even though he is not the prototype of a striker. His favourite position is second striker or most offensive midfielder and he can play both.
“It’s very important because he is not just up there with the forward he gets in between the lines and knows when to go into the box at the final moments. That’s how he scored a lot of goals.”
