This week’s announcement that Sir Alex Ferguson will bring down the curtain on 26 years at Manchester United at the end of the season meant that the game against the Swans became his last competitive game at Old Trafford.
Given it was already their party date when they are reunited with the Premier League trophy for the 13th time it has now become a double celebration as they recognise the end of an era for the club.
And there is little doubt that Sir Alex deserves the respect from all the fans inside Old Trafford tomorrow whether it be in the home ends or as a visiting supporter. He has managed them throughout all those Premier League titles, a couple of European Cups and a host of other trophies into the mix. Add to that his previous success in Scotland and you have 38 major trophies in a managerial career which just demands respect.
Of course that respect can end the moment the game kicks off because reality returns for us and we remember ‘we’re only there to watch the Swans’ and we can get on with the aim that we have of spoiling the Champions party.
And we have the team that is capable of doing that although we always know that we have to be on the top of our game for that to happen. As fans we can play our part by being loud and proud and who knows what could happen from there on in.
A victory would seal our top 10 poisition this season so there is our further incentive for a victory and what a way that would be to seal that prestigious position.
So for those lucky enough to be there tomorrow to watch the Swans last game on the road, show your respect to a true football legend and then get behind Michael’s boys and see if we really can spoil the party!
