Today I found myself being told by three separate people that Ashley Williams is on his way to Arsenal in a done deal purely because some websites are claiming to have spoken to his representatives who have confirmed that the deal is concluded. Quotes from said representatives? None.

Of course it could be true but never fall into the trap that just because it says on the web it must be true as at this time of year it is all too easy to either re-hash a story you have read elsewhere or just simply make something up.

The headline of this article could easily have been ‘Michu in Everton link’ or ‘Liverpool move for Swans star Routledge’ in a cheap link to try and get people talking. It would have been easy to add to the article ‘a source close to the player has told us that he would love to join forces with Brendan again’ and try and give it more credence than it deserved

We know that there is interest in Ash and we would expect that and we know that some of our star performers will be linked with moves this summer but until we hear something officially then it is nothing more than speculation.

What we do know though is that NO deal has been confirmed for Ash (and yes we know the irony in that as it’s Planet Swans understands) and that the professionalism of the player will ensure that nothing would happen until our season is over no matter what is believed. We also stick by our belief that he will be here next season but that’s belief and no source to confirm or deny.

But what we have learned a long time ago is not to believe what is said elsewhere – too often things have been reported as FACT which are known not to be true – Kenwyne Jones apparantely signed for us hours before playing against us earlier this season as a classic example

Having said all that I love silly season and all the fun that comes with it particularly the mass hysteria that it will always bring. Let the fun and games commence.
