Right Let’s Get That First Win

After back to back defeats against Manchester United and Tottenham, the Swans will not want to go into the first break of the season on the back of three defeats and will be looking to lift themselves off the bottom of the early Premier League table.

We all knew when the fixture list was announced that it was not going to be easy. The Champions at home and Spurs at White Hart Lane were – if people were being honest – fixtures that we suspected would end in defeat but this game at the Hawthorns I am sure is one that was marked as a possibility to get some points on the board.

The Swans won there in our first season in the Premier League and only one of the worst decisions of last season cost us a point there last season so we have form at the Hawthorns that we hope can count for something tomorrow.

The Baggies have not scored a goal in their opening two fixtures in the league although they beat Newport this week 3-0 in the Capital One Cup. They are also boosted by the return of Nicolas Anelka and we could see one of our former stars in Scott Sinclair lining up against us – he is on a season long loan from Manchester City.

Michael Laudrup left Ashley Williams, Jonjo Shelvey and Wilfried Bony at home for the midweek trip to Romania and we hope that all three will be back on Sunday as they were sorely missed on Thursday night as we lost in Romania.

Many of the pundits are already predicting that our continued progress in Europe will hamper us in the Premier League so it would be nice to put something on the board to kill that theory off. Predictions of our demise are already well overstated. Our current situation reminds me now of our first set of away fixtures in the Premier League where many wrote off that we could not win on the road and seemed to ignore that our first three away fixtures were Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in that season. In much the same way this time we have had two tough fixtures but West Brom (away), Liverpool (home) and Crystal Palace (away) are our next three fixtures and I really cant see us being bottom by the time we return from Selhurst Park?

I do feel confident again going into the game on Sunday and I think the Swans will return with at least something from the game although I have a feeling it may just be a point but that will certainly do for us right now. A win and to be fair it’s not been a bad start to the season especially when you take into account the European progression.
