The one thing that transfer deadline day never is is dull. You may never get the big stories always breaking at every club but it is always quote amusing to see how Sky Sports News manage to turn it into the biggest soap opera of the year which makes you wonder how we ever managed before the growth of Jim White and his transfer deadline roadshow.
Of course it has generated some classic moments over the last 12 months. Last August saw Liverpool desperately trying to secure a deal to sign Clint Dempsey only for him to travel across London and sign for Spurs – the Sky reporters didn’t see that coming until he turned up at Tottenham to complete the deal. And last January we had Peter Odemwingie and QPR but that deal never happened and according to QPR it was never going to.
Ironically, Odemwingie is a target for the Swans in this window but we’re not really expecting much action at the Liberty on this final day particularly not on the exit front as the manager seems pretty adamant that nobody will go which is great news for us. We may have a striker to add to our mix before the day is out but the cameras would be best placed elsewhere.
No doubt during the day we will have pictures from Madrid where Gareth Bale is now the world’s most expensive footballer although rumours that Darren Pratley is about to relieve him of that title are well over exaggerated.
One thing though that we do know is that whether you like or hate it transfer deadline day can be compelling viewing and you just know that from around 8pm tonight you’ll be watching Sky Sports news and seeing just how exciting they can make standing outside the Britannia Stadium seem!!
