Swans Held By Newcastle

And that was the case for the Swans this weekend as we twice held a one goal advantage over a Newcastle side who are yet to register a win in the league this season.

It is now four Premier League games without a win for the Swans who started the season with three straight league victories but a nicely placed 5th place in the table looks good as we head into another two week break forced upon us by the international break.

Goals from Wilfried Bony – his first of the season – and Wayne Routledge we had hoped would be enough to give us the three points that we desired but it was not to be as two goals from Cisse got Newcastle back into the game and sent them on the way back to Newcastle with a point in the bag.

It was possibly even a point that could keep manager Alan Pardew in the job for a bit longer as the under pressure boss was very much the focus of the day in the media although he should be as grateful to his goalkeeper Tim Kruhl for his saves as much as he was to Cisse for his two goals.

It was a story for the Swans of what could have been as they dominated possession and had more chances at goal but did not get the conversion that they would have wanted from those statistics and in the end it was the two points dropped that I suspect we would be rueing at the end of the game.

That said we have often commented that there are no easy points to be won in the Premier League so a tally of eleven from seven games should always be viewed with the positivity that it deserves and if we carry on at this level of points then we will reach our first target possibly in record time for the club.

There were two more assists for Gylfi Sigurdsson which is always good to watch and he continues to rack up the assists this season and repaying the faith that we had in him to sign him back and a big positive of Bony’s first goal of the season was also a welcome bonus as I would not have wanted him to go into the break having not scored this season.

It would be easy to look at this game and be critical on the way we lost the points but there are plenty of positives to take from the game that we should focus on as much if not more. There was some nice football played again at times although sometimes it does look very easy for the opposition to cut through our defence.

The two week break I think has come at a good time for the Swans (very much different to the last one) and with Stoke away and Leicester at home as the next two games we should be looking to target at least four points ideally and there is no reason why we cannot achieve that
