Bafe Strikes To Earn Swans Point

Gomis was on hand to head home Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner in the second half to bring the Swans back on terms after we trailed to a sublime goal from Andy Carroll in the first half.

It was the least we deserved although it was a game that had very few clear cut chances with the Swans dominating possession and the chances that did come our way although it was probably Fabianski that was called upon more often to make a save to keep the scoreline as it ended up.

And if Gomis is to be our long term replacement for Wilf then we can be assured that we have a striker who may not have the naturaly finishing ability of the Ivorian but he certainly has the ability to cause problems for any defence at this level and to cap it all seems to have some form of aerial ability. He could have already scored a couple by the time he netted the crucial goal and he worked well with the midfield and run his heart out for the team during the game.

My criticism today would be for Dyer and Routledge who both look desperately out of form and we were certainly more dangerous when we bought on Barrow and Emnes in the second half and this is when we got ourselves back into the game and could have sneaked a winner late on.

An honourable mention must go as well to Oliviera who looked dangerous when he came on and it looks as if we may have another good player on our books which can only help us for the remainder of this season.

It was painful to watch the Carroll goal but you have to admit that for a horrible footballer it was a good goal although he was afforded too much freedom in the penalty area although the finish was very sublime. His celebration though for me summed up Carroll as a person as he celebrated in front of the East Stand which in fairness could easily have earned him a booking for incitement.

He could have had a winner too after Fabianski spilled a late free kick but thankfully for the Swans he was unable to convert the chance.

We could easily have considered ourselves unlucky though not to be ahead by the time Carroll did score with Gomis within a whisker of converting an early Dyer cross whilst Gylfi shot tamely at the keeper when well placed. Gomis also made the wrong decision when the Swans were breaking clear and he should have looked for one of his options in the box rather than trying to go it alone but a hungry striker cannot be blamed too much.

In the end though the spoils were shared between two teams who will be more than happy with their current league position and points tally and we have shown that there will be life after Wilfried Bony and it certainly isn’t doom and gloom.

The league leaders next week at the Liberty will test just how well we can compete at this point in time but happy with a point today definitely.
