A fee in excess of รยฃ25m will be heading the Swans way as part of the deal in a record breaking transfer deal that eclipses what we paid for the Ivorian around 18 months ago.
That fee is reported to have worked out close to the รยฃ15m mark but what a return we have had on that money with Bony being the Premier League’s leading scorer in the calendar year of 2014.
Ironically the first of those goals in the year came against Manchester City on New Year’s Day and it is looking like his last goal will have come 12 months later at QPR. Ironically it was the same ground which Scott Sinclair scored his last Swansea goal before he made his own move to the Ethiad Stadium in 2012.
The Swans will not want to lose their star man but when the big money comes calling it is particularly difficult to compete especially when you consider that Bony is likely to double his wage at least with a move to the current Premier League Champions.
Explaining his desire to land Bony, City boss Manuel Pellegrini said รขโฌลThe injuries were part of the decision to go for Bony.
“Itรขโฌโขs normal that strikers are more injured than other players, especially here in England where you need strong footballers and itรขโฌโขs physical football.
รขโฌลThatรขโฌโขs why I said last year, and this year also, we need a fourth striker. And, of course, injuries are one of the reasons why Bony should come.”
Bony could potentially be away from the Premier League until early February but with City having well documented injury problems amongst their strikers you can understand their desire to make the move.
Press reports this morning though suggest that Chelsea could yet make a move for the player although I have to say that this would seem less likely to happen given their own position but it has been reported before that Chelsea like to make moves for players just to stop their own rivals getting their hands on them.
Personally I think this transfer deal will reach a conclusion reasonably soon next week and I can see the Ethiad being the only real possible English destination for the greatest striker we have ever had
