So it was no real surprise to see that this morning’s papers have us and West Brom linked with a move for one of the Championship’s top strikers in Watford’s Troy Deeney.
Deeney has scored 65 Championship goals since joining the Hornets from Walsall four years ago and has been linked with moves to the Premier League in the last couple of transfer window – none of which have actually turned into anything.
The Swans raided Watford for Danny Graham when they first arrived in the Premier League in 2011 breaking our transfer record at the time to grab him. Deeney stepped into the void left by Graham and scored 12 goals the following season, following it up with 20 goals the season after and 25 last term. He has 9 so far this term and at the age of 26 is probably at the right stage of his career for the step up.
That said I cannot see us making a move for him with Gomis and Oliviera already in our ranks. I believe that when the Wilf deal is completed then we will retain these two as our main striking options with any move for a new man more likely to come in the summer rather than the January window.
I can though see Deeney making the move up at some point during 2015 to which club though I have no idea.
