After the exploits of last season where the Swans finished 8th with 56 points – a record on both fronts – the Swans will go into next season with the expectations of the fans at a record high, certainly higher than at any point in our 103 year history.
Jenkins – awarded the OBE last week for his services to football in Wales – has been at the Swans helm since 2002 and during that time he has led the club to three promotions, a Capital One Cup triumph and a place in the last 32 of the Europa League in 2013/4.
It is little wonder then that he is cautious when he talks up his goals for next season – or at least he will be publically anyway. One of the most ambitious people you can meet I suspect he has his own views on what can be achieved next season but is careful to deflect the pressure away and give people realistic expectations.
“It’s very difficult to actually put a name on something to achieve,” he says.
“And the fact is that it doesn’t alter year on year รขโฌโ we have to make sure we have a squad which is better assembled than ever, and we have to make sure everyone at the club is focused on making sure we are part of the Premier League for many years to come.
“As tough sometimes as that may be because we have spent years moving through the divisions and hitting targets and setting new ones, there comes a time when finishing comfortably in the Premier League has to be seen as an excellent achievement.
“We have to take that on board as a club and do it hopefully for many years to come.
“That’s what we have to set out our club to do.”
