Cornforth – Swans Can Win A Cup

Cornforth was the first ever Swans captain to lead his side out at Wembley when he captained them in the 1994 Autoglass Trophy Final, a game which we won having beaten Huddersfield on penalties.

And his name sits proudly on the wall of the Liberty Stadium having been one of the first names added to the Robbie James Wall of Fame.

Cornforth is back in South Wales this weekend as part of the Swansea City legends team that will take part in the Swans4Cancer game at the Gnoll tomorrow evening and he hopes that next year he will get the chance to see the Swans add a second domestic trophy to their honours board, joining the Capital One Cup triumph in 2013.

“I believe they will win a cup next season รขโ‚ฌโ€ and I would like to think it will be the FA Cup.” said Cornforth

“It’s a while ago that I went to Wembley with Swansea, but I will be having a flutter on them going back next season. I really fancy them to do it.

“Huw Jenkins is getting an OBE, which says something, then you have Martin Morgan, Leigh Dineen and the rest all the way through to Garry Monk.

“The club seems to run like clockwork รขโ‚ฌโ€ there doesn’t seem to be any negativity anywhere.

“Where Swansea are now is worlds apart from the club I played for,” Cornforth adds.

“I remember on our away trips, we would make our own cheese and Branston pickle sandwiches at the back of the team bus.

“There would only be about three loaves of bread between the lot of us so you had to get in there fast.

“I wouldn’t change my time at Swansea for the world. People talk about the money in football now compared to when I played, but I am not bothered about that.

“Being at the Vetch was the best part of my career.

“But things move on and the club have moved on. I like Garry Monk massively and he seems to be building a hell of a squad.

“With the core that is already there, players like Lukasz Fabianski, Ashley Williams and Jack Cork, and the new signings the club are making, these are really exciting times.”

Swansea City: Andy Coleman has much to answer for right now
