Why Does The Transfer Window Always Slam Shut?

I haven’t had a count of my house to see how many windows I have or how many windows that open for that matter but I think it is safe to say that the windows I have I tend not to slam shut but I just shut them in the way that I am sure it was intended I should do.

It is the same when I am in the office. I shut the windows and lock them accordingly but – with a few exceptions – I don’t think I have ever slammed one of them shut.

So I want to know what makes the transfer window so special that it needs slamming shut. Take a look around this world wide web of ours and you will see a host of news stories telling you that deals may or may not happen before the window slams shut.

Maybe it is a stubborn window that needs a little more force to close it to the world or maybe it is just one of those that closes with a feeling of satisfaction but I think that if there is one thing that we need to learn this summer it is exactly why it needs slamming shut.

I see no reason why a news story couldn’t say “Swans boss Garry Monk is a relieved man to keep hold of his key players as the transfer window closed gently this evening” rather than “Monk breathes a massive sigh as the window slams shut” – they both mean the same thing surely?

I am sure as well that there is one day a danger that if it is slammed shut too forcibly then it may be difficult to open it again come January but of course that is another story for another day I am sure by reading this far you are bored enough as it is.

But for now please think of the transfer window when it is being closed and wonder if just for once it could shut itself quietly!
