Make no mistake, Leon is a Swansea legend and always will be and I am sure that the club will not stand in his way should the chance come to move to MLS but it’s a sad way to see it end as I guess the romantic side of me always saw him seeing out his playing days at the Liberty.
Leon was linked with a move to MLS earlier in the summer but reports now reach us that it is the Red Bulls that are watching things with interest at the Liberty and it could spark a transfer deal that could also see Matt Miazga make the opposite journey to South Wales having been watched by Swans scouts last weekend.
Britton – like Jazz Richards before him – has hinted that he may have to move away from Swansea in his bid to get first team football having dropped down the order behind the likes of Ki, Jack Cork and Jonjo Shelvey and it is also known that Garry Monk would like to bring the likes of Jay Fulton and Matt Grimes more into the first team picture leaving Leon with very limited chances.
Speaking last month Leon said “I said to the manager that I can’t do another season not playing.
“I have two years left on my contract, but I am 32 and I don’t want to be not playing at this age, so I have said to the manager that I will look at my options.
รขโฌลYou never know what can happen, someone could get injured and there could be a chance for me to get back into the team.
“But I have to look at things the way they are now, and as it stands the manager feels it will be difficult for me to play.
“I want to play here, but if the chances of that happening are limited I will have to look at what options are out there and I have spoken to the manager about that.รขโฌย
The Red Bulls currently stand 4th in the Eastern Conference of the MLS having won 6 of their 16 games to date this season.
