Monk Praises Ayew Quality

The Swans manager was clearly trying to reduce the expectation on what is probably his marquee signing of the season.

Having snatched the signature of the player on a free transfer, there are great hopes that he could turn out to be another Premier League bargain for the Swans following in the footsteps of the likes of Michu, Fabianski and Jack Cork.

However, he was keen to point out that it is not just Ayew who needs to contribute for the Swans to push on from last season’s 8th place although he does recognise that the player has added extra to his squad and not just on the pitch.

Monk said: “He did well. It was a great finish at Forest but he brings that quality. You can see it clearly and you can see he is a very clever player as well.

“But we can’t put too much pressure on him. He is obviously a very good player with a very good pedigree, but our hopes don’t rest on one man.

“He is not going to be a one-player saviour for the team or anything like that. He is a team player and everyone has to be contribute.

“I do think he will bring quality and he has experience as well – I already hear him talking to the group within games and within training sessions. He brings that.

“But it’s not for him to go and score all the goals and create all the chances – everyone has to do that.

“Hopefully what he can do is bring that experience and quality that he has. Everyone else can look at that and they can step up as well.”
