The Swans dominated large periods of the game and the match stats backed up afterwards just how well we had played as we had the most shots on target at Stamford Bridge since Opta started recording those stats.
Goals from Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis gave the Swans a point that they more than deserved but it could have been so different had it not been for hesitation from Gomis and some good goalkeeping from both Chelsea keepers.
And the result means that the Swans now have no fear at all and they welcome Newcastle to the Liberty this weekend knowing that a win would be a suitable follow up to what was a great start to the season.
“You want to start the season well and although we didn’t get the win on Saturday, I don’t think many people would have thought we’d get a draw,” said captain Ashley Williams
“In our camp we know we’ve got a lot more work to do and the season’s long, there are going to be ups and downs.
“But I think with that performance and that result, we don’t have any fear now to go anywhere.
“Everyone realises that, so hopefully it’s the springboard for another good season.
“It was a big result for us, and what’s more encouraging is the performance.
“There was a small feeling of disappointment afterwards because we felt we could have nicked it.
“We had a lot of good chances, especially in the first half, and it just shows how far we’ve come that there’s a feeling of disappointment that we haven’t beaten the champions away in the first game of the season.
“But we’ve been in the game long enough to know it’s a very long, hard season.”
