De Guzman made 93 appearances for us in the two seasons he was here on loan and scored 15 goals including two in the Capital One Cup Final victory over Bradford in 2013.
We never made the deal permanent and last year he joined Napoli where he made 36 appearances and scored 7 goals keeping up what is a pretty impressive goalscoring record for the midfielder.
And with Bournemouth allegedly (according to Gazzetta dello Sport) having made the bid for the player it did get me wondering whether we should think about making a move again for someone who was such a hit here.
Of course that decision would come down to a few things with a key one being how much game time we think we would use him for. Would he get into the side ahead of Cork, Ki, Shelvey or Sigurdsson is clearly open for debate but he would be a fantastic option for us should we be missing one of those or even just wanting to give them a rest for a game or two.
He would almost certainly be in the pecking order above Matt Grimes and Leon Britton in midfield so signing him would strengthen the squad.
Wages may (or may not) be an issue we don’t really know I guess but with his goalscoring ratio then it should be someone that we should be showing an interest in.
The key is whether we have a transfer kitty left to consider a deal but it will be interesting to know if this was a discussion point within the club or whether we are quite happy without him.
