“Mitrovic Will Add Strength To Newcastle”

There was much speculation throughout the summer that the Swans were courting the signature of the Serb but nothing ever materialised with our striking department eventually strengthened with the arrival of Eder although we of course also signed Andre Ayew who started his Swansea career with a goal at Chelsea last weekend.

It as interesting to see Ayew’s debut with a goal as Mitrovic could have had one of the shortest debuts in football history when he was booked after 16 seconds for a rash challenge. Many pundits believed the challenge could have warranted a sending off but it was not to be and it leaves the player free to face the Swans this afternoon although it is expected to be off the bench rather than in a starting role.

And of course Monk will know what he will be up against should Mitrovic get onto the field having been keen to sign him.

รขโ‚ฌล“He will add strength to Newcastle,รขโ‚ฌย said the Swans boss. รขโ‚ฌล“He is a good striker and, with some improvement, he could be a top striker.

รขโ‚ฌล“I am sure every club has looked at every striker รขโ‚ฌโ€ itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs part of what your scouting team do.

รขโ‚ฌล“All the top strikers are on your shortlist. I looked at him and I know what type of player he is.

รขโ‚ฌล“But I looked at 30 or 40 strikers throughout the summer. He was one of them but there was never anything close to coming here.รขโ‚ฌย
