Britton Committs Future To Swansea

Britton, who has been at Swansea since 2002, looked set to leave the Swans in search of first team football something that the Swans had admitted that they were not able to offer him on a regular basis. When he stayed at hone when the squad went to Germany on their pre-season training camp it looked almost certain that he was on his way as he played for the Under-21s to keep his match fitness up.

Stories emerged of interest from Championship sides and he was also linked with a move to MLS club Orlando City as a move to the States started to look more likely.

But the two sides never got close to parting company and Britton appeared last Saturday against Newcastle as a substitute and that was the next real sign that we got that maybe he did have a future at the club.

Earlier in the week Monk admitted that Leon could be staying at Swansea and now it has been confirmed by the player himself who must be relieved to have his immediate future sorted out

Talking to the Evening Post, Britton said “I spoke to the manager about two weeks ago and it was decided that the best thing for me was to stay here.

รขโ‚ฌล“It looks like Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขll be staying here and Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm delighted with that. Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve always said the first place I want to play is here at Swansea.

“Maybe things will change a bit and I can be involved a bit more, which would be great.

รขโ‚ฌล“Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve said all along that the fans have always been great to me and the reaction I got when I was warming up was something special.

รขโ‚ฌล“It doesnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt matter how many times they do it รขโ‚ฌโ€ it gives me goosebumps every time and the hair on the back of my neck stands up.

รขโ‚ฌล“Itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs such a good feeling to hear the support they have for me. It has been a difficult time for me because I wasnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt too sure what was going to happen.

รขโ‚ฌล“But their support really underlines the special relationship we share, and it typifies how amazing they are.

รขโ‚ฌล“Just pulling on the shirt and seeing the Swans badge put a big smile on my face.

รขโ‚ฌล“And it was great to get out on the pitch. The lads put in a fantastic performance and we got the job done. Four points from the first two games is a really encouraging start.รขโ‚ฌย
