Cattermole – We Showed Great Character

There is little doubt that Sunderland showed more fight today than they have done in the first two games of the season but it does seem to have gone unnoticed in amongst the praise that they needed some strokes of luck and brilliant goalkeeping to keep them in the game.

I wonder what would be being said had Andre Ayew’s second half header not come back off the post but instead nestled in the corner of the lead. At that point the wans could have had a two goal lead and I am not sure there would have been any comeback for Sunderland who I think would have seen their heads drop rather than come back and rescued a point.

That is not taking anything away from Sunderland but they were second best for the majority of the game no matter how much more battle they showed compared to recent weeks.

The Swans can certainly consider ourselves unlucky not to have secured all three points but the plus from our point of view is we protect our unbeaten record and go into the home game with Manchester United next week still with confidence running high.

“We’ve got quality in the squad and that showed. We had a bit of a sucker punch at half time, we’ve gone behind in games and we’ve crumbled but that’s going to give us a lot of confidence today.”
