It has been a pretty depressing run for Rooney who could in the next couple of weeks become the leading scorer for his country as he needs just 2 goals to overtake Sir Bobby Charlton as England’s all time leading scorer.
It was the 4th April that Rooney last found the net for Man Utd in the league with a goal against Aston Villa. on the same day Gomis was scoring two as the Swans beat Hull at the Liberty.
The Swans will be hoping to keep Rooney quiet again on Sunday when the two sides meet at the Liberty as we head off in search of a third successive win against Louis Van Gaal’s side.
Former England wide man Chris Waddle believes that some of the fault lies in the fact that Rooney is asked to play a role that his game is not suited to
“Rooney doesn’t seem to have somebody he can play with and that is why they need to buy a top-class number nine for him to play behind.”
“At the moment Rooney is lacking confidence. He is isolated and doesn’t look composed in front of goal.
“He is physical, he’s got good pace and a great range of passes, which is why he’s best played behind the striker.
“Van Gaal keeps saying he’s got four centre-forwards and doesn’t need another one. I think he’s got four number 10s. I don’t think he’s got an out-and-out number nine.”
