The squad was initially supposed to be announced on Tuesday this week but was put back by Hodgson because of injuries to midfielders and he claimed he wanted the Saturday games out of the way before he named the players he wanted.
Shelvey has been brilliant at the start of this season (and the end of last as well) and for me certainly deserves a call up should it happen and given he has created more chances in the Premier League than any other player this season it is difficult to understand how that could be overlooked.
Jack Cork is probably not so obvious for a call up but for me he has been brilliant since he signed here from Southampton and the fact that he has played in every Premier League game since tells you much about the form that he has been in. Maybe his claims are not so strong as those of Jonjo but he certainly would not be out of place on the international stage and I believe he is more worthy than some of the other names that get mentioned.
Leon Britton clearly knows a thing or two about midfielders and he thinks that both could well be in the squad.
Speaking about Shelvey’s prospects after he set up Marvin Emnes’ late third against York, Britton said: “I think he’s certainly in best form of his Swansea career.
“His passing, through balls have made a big difference for us this season. He has started the season well. Hopefully the people at England are looking at that.
“Also Jack Cork you have to say is in with a shout. I looked at the game on Sunday and I thought he was outstanding and the best player on the pitch.”
