Monk – I Am A Perfectionist

The Swans will entertain Manchester United and are in search of a third successive win over their visitors following a historic league double last season.

Monk has compared the wins over Manchester United and Arsenal with the ones over Burnley and West Brom saying that each one makes him feel the same inside but that is really the words of a perfectionist who we know prepares to the finest detail possible ahead of each game.

Monk is one of life’s great planners and there have been many examples of where we have seen this put to use over the past few months. From the sleep pods that were installed at the training ground this summer through his early transfer dealings and even things like the Deportivo game kicking off at 5.30pm, Monk likes to ensure that his players have the best possible chance of winning every game that they play.

And tomorrow he will come up against Louis Van Gaal and his folder full of knowledge but that is not something that Monk will ever replicate รขโ‚ฌล“For me that doesnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt help on the bench. You have your plan that everyone knows before they go on. Then Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm only really writing notes on the bench to tweak the model. At halfรขโ‚ฌโ€˜time I will use those notes.

I have everything on a hard drive. I film everything we do. I have a plan, a game model I try to follow, implement and then improve on.

รขโ‚ฌล“Details mean a lot to me. The problem I have is I am a perfectionist รขโ‚ฌโ€œ so I am constantly doing my own head in with little details. You want the right sign, the right pitch, grass cut to the right length. You have to be meticulous with all those things and the players have to understand that. I do it so that players are motivated รขโ‚ฌโ€œ but also so that they have no excuses. We have a no-excuse culture within the first team environment.รขโ‚ฌย
