Monk believes firmly that the transfer window should shut the moment the season starts and it is easy to understand his point. It was only just before the weekend that West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace talked about Spurs pursuit of Saido Berahino and how it would make it difficult for his team to secure a replacement at short notice.
These are the things that make the transfer window difficult to understand and even in our position we could find that a big bid is made for a player on Tuesday morning and where do we stand if the player declares that they would like to go. It is easy to understand how people think that the window benefits the big teams and I do tend to side with Garry that it probably should shut before the season starts.
Monk though is not ruling out any last minute deals even if his immediate focus is on today’s clash with Manchester United at the Liberty.
“I will keep an eye on it” he said when asked what his thoughts were about the upcoming deadline.
“Mostly because I am looking at the clubs we are coming up against to see which players are going where.
“But my phone is always on and I won’t rule anything out.
“The fact it’s still open is mystifying to me. Itรขโฌโขs ridiculous.
“I hope it changes in the future. To be honest, I’ll be glad when it’s all over.”
Monk should be commended for the fact that he did most of his transfer dealings at the start of the summer and you can certainly say that it has benefited us at the start of the season as we aim to go into the first international break of the season unbeaten.
Whether we strengthen after this game is debatable but I just don’t see it myself but you just never know…
