Trundle – It’s Not Over For Dyer

Dyer was a notable departure from the club on deadline day yesterday and he will now spend the remainder of the season on loan at Leicester who have had an excellent start to the season and are one of three clubs currently above the Swans in the table.

He has found that his game time at the Swans has been limited in recent times particularly this season thanks to the superb form of Jefferson Montero and Andre Ayew.

That has left him kicking his heels on the bench but only last week he said he was fighting for his place after scoring the Swans first goal in our Capital One Cup win over York at the Liberty.

What happened yesterday isn’t clear whether Leicester made a move first or whether the player asked to be considered for a loan move away but either way we will not see Nathan’s name on the team sheet this season for us.

Could it be the beginning of the end? Yes it most definitely could although with a loan move, as we saw with Ki to Sunderland, it is not the end of a career and I suspect that the Swans would want to keep options open just in case at the end of the season we would like him back in Swansea.

Twelve months ago Nathan Dyer was one of the names being linked with an England call up but a loss of form and a loss of a place and it has all changed for him so Leicester is a chance for him to prove he still has it at this level.

Club ambassador Lee Trundle certainly does not believe that the door is closed to a Nathan return: “I don’t want to talk like he’s gone for good because it’s only a loan. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to Leicester, did really well, and got himself back in the team.

“Other players have come in, done well and they have the shirt at the moment. He hasn’t had much of a chance. But it wasn’t that long ago that people were talking about him getting an England call-up, so we shouldn’t write him off.”
