Thursday’s 1-0 win over Cyprus in Nicosia put Wales on the brink of qualification for the final stages of a tournament for the first time since 1958 and they can finish the job this afternoon in front of a capacity crowd at the Cardiff City Stadium.
There have been so many near misses over the years with Scotland (twice), Romania and Russia all springing to mind immediately but it was against Israel that we sealed the qualification for 1958 so history can very much repeat itself in Cardiff later on today.
Should the result go the way that we all want it will spark scenes of elation but Welsh fans have been warned to keep off the pitch by the Welsh FA with Chief Executive Jonathan Ford saying รขโฌลUefa do look upon these things quite poorly and we know there can be penalties if such things happen
รขโฌลThere is a range of disciplinary procedures and ultimately they do have the ability to take points away from teams or order games to be played behind closed doors. It goes without saying we do not want that to happen and potentially spoil what could be a great night.
รขโฌลWe want every single person at the stadium and across the country to enjoy the occasion and, hopefully, celebrate what could be a fantastic day in Welsh football, but all should remember to do it in the right spirit.รขโฌย
