Wales Made To Wait For Qualification Party

When your visitors turn up and park the bus then it is always difficult to break them down and so it proved in front of a capacity crowd in Cardiff.

We had chances with Aaron Ramsey and King coming close and forcing saves from the keeper but in truth the Israeli defence was always stronger than the Welsh attack which was nullified all too often.

Qualification today is not out of the question, it will be secured should Belgium fail to win in Cyprus tonight but it was not the party that we wanted today.

Wales still have two qualifiers left – away to Bosnia and home to Andorra – so despite the frustration then it should not be too much of an issue that we didn’t get the job done today.

Israel came for a point from the outset, their keeper was warned early doors for time wasting and they always had at least 7 or 8 men behind the ball for almost every Welsh attack. A strange tactic perhaps when they probably needed the win more than we did but it was how they set themselves up and they must be settling pretty much for a play off spot at the end of the group stages if they can?

Wales thought they had got their moment of glory with the last touch of the game but Simon Church was offside and the game ended goalless.

Qualification for me is still very much a case of when rather than if but for now the champagne remains on ice, even if it is just for a few hours maybe.
