“Ferocious” Training Sets Swans Up For Watford

That can certainly not be an accusation at the moment with Garry Monk talking at last night’s fans forum about the conditioning that the players have at the moment.

He was asked a question around how much the international journeys can take out of his squad but he was clear that they were prepared for this kind of thing and that it didn’t have a massive impact.

Monk is one of life’s perfectionists in the way that he prepares for games and you can see it in the results that we have had since he has taken over at the club. The fitness levels have stepped up a gear and if you watched closely in pre-season then you would have seen a level of preparation that we have, to my memory, not seen before.

And four games into the season the results of that preparation is clear for everyone to see with the Swans in 4th place in the Premier League and defending an unbeaten record at Watford tomorrow.

Monk says that the competition in the squad is also part of the reason for such an excellent start รขโ‚ฌล“The competitiveness of this group so far since theyรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve come in has been incredible,รขโ‚ฌย said the Swansea boss.

รขโ‚ฌล“Training every day can be a bit ferocious at times, but thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs what you want รขโ‚ฌโ€œ that attitude and that focus.

รขโ‚ฌล“Theyรขโ‚ฌโ„ขre all fighting for that starting place and itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs hard for me to make that selection right now because theyรขโ‚ฌโ„ขre all doing well.

รขโ‚ฌล“They are tough decisions, but thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs what a good team should do, thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs what a good club should do.

รขโ‚ฌล“Itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs my job to make sure we stay focused and continue down that path รขโ‚ฌโ€œ thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs what Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขll be pushing for.

รขโ‚ฌล“We spend a lot of time with each other, it is like a second family, you spend so many hours on the training ground, on the road, at the hotel.

รขโ‚ฌล“You form bonds and thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs part of my ethos at the club. Itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs my belief that the group has to be together.

รขโ‚ฌล“You have to do whatever it takes for the team and the team in No. 1.รขโ‚ฌย
