Monk – We Were Poor

A lacklustre Swansea performance from start to finish was the reality of the game with possession surrendered too easily and pretty much every player having an off day as the Swans slipped out of the division’s top four.

After such a pulsating start to the season prior to the international break there was much optimism ahead of the game and particularly around the 2,000 plus fans who made the journey to Vicarage Road.

On the other hand Watford went into the game with no victory to their names and celebrated at the end the win that they deserved based on the afternoon’s performance.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Monk was not searching for excuses as he looked back on the game

“We were poor we got what we deserved in the end, we didn’t play well today and we lacked focus on the day” he said.

“We didn’t perform or do the things that we are good at which is disappointing. Players give 100 per cent and we have been playing so well and wanted to keep the momentum that we have got but it was not to be, I have no complaints with the result.

“The goal summed our day up it was an extremely poor goal. To lose a goal like that is extremely poor and it was poor defending by us.

“If you cant play well you make sure you don’t lose the game – we need to put this right next week.

“It was a sending off, it was a stamp and a dangerous tackle and you would have hoped that it changes the momentum of the game and improve us. We had a few chances and we had a penalty that wasn’t given but that wasn’t the reason why we lost, that was the performance that did that”
