Williams Wants No Champions League Talk

There is nothing like being carried away on the back of a good few results to start the season and I think it is a reasonable bet that us (nor Leicester or Crystal Palace for that matter) will qualify for the Champions League with that privilege likely to go to just one of maybe six possible clubs.

That is taking nothing away from any of those teams but the top four will generally need a team to get around 70 points or more which is a massive achievement for any of the clubs who operate on far more limited budgets than the bigger teams.

There will always be unexpected form teams in the division at any given point in time but it would be a massive ask for the teams to keep that going for 38 games over nine months which is why it won’t happen.

The Swans proved at Watford on Saturday that an off day can happen at any point and Williams sounded almost glad that it happened so it can leave the team to concentrate on what we do best rather than thinking of a Top 6 finish or better.

รขโ‚ฌล“It wasnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt that we were over-confident coming here รขโ‚ฌโ€œ but at least people can stop asking us questions about getting into the Champions League and we can stop getting sucked into answering them,” said Ash.

รขโ‚ฌล“Weรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve got a good set of lads, we all work hard every day and have the right attitude รขโ‚ฌโ€œ but itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs about staying focused.

รขโ‚ฌล“And when everyone is throwing Champions League stuff at you รขโ‚ฌโ€œ and itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs unusual for most of our lads because we donรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt normally get that รขโ‚ฌโ€œ I suppose it can take your eye off the ball a little bit.

รขโ‚ฌล“We can get over that now and just focus on being Swansea City, not worrying about getting into Europe or if this player is better than that one and all that. We can just worry about us and what we have to do.รขโ‚ฌย
