Hull City 1 Swansea City 0 – Cup Dream Over

A much changed Swans side saw Garry Monk make 10 changes from the side that started against Everton at the Liberty last Saturday, one less than he made in the third round victory over York.

The goal came in the last five minutes of the first half when Hull’s Davie Meyler scored the crucial goal.

The Swans though by that time had had enough chances to win the game and certainly should have been ahead by the time that Hull scored. It was a frustrating night for the team and I suspect that Garry will be feeling that we did enough to get through and keep alive hopes of a second triumph in the competition.

Three blanks in a row will worry him slightly no matter how much he changes his side and it is certainly time for us to find the back of the net again at Southampton this weekend.

The bench showed just what the competition would have meant with Gomis and Shelvey introduced relatively quickly in the second half and Naughton a late substitute for the injured Tabanou but it made little difference with the Swans continuing to have the bulk of possession but unable to find the back of the net.

64% possession and no goals is a statistic that has to be a concern and whilst this will be a very different side to the one that we put out on Saturday it was a disappointing night and one that ended a Wembley dream, in this competition anyway.
