Swansea 2 Tottenham Hotspur 2 – Fighting Point For Swans

A headed goal from Andre Ayew and an own goal from Harry Kane looked potentially to have given the Swans the win that they so desperately wanted but two free kick from Christian Eriksen gave Spurs a point.

It was a hugely entertaining game at the Liberty which could easily have gone either way but both goalkeepers were on good form to keep out good efforts from various people and at the end a point felt a fair result for both teams.

The Swans had made two changes from the side that started last week’s defeat at Southampton with Angel Rangel in for a first league start of the season at the expense of Kyle Naughton and Jefferson Montero back in the side with Jack Cork dropping to the bench for the second time this season.

Montero was a threat for Kyle Walker all afternoon and it was him that provided the final touch to a superb Swansea move for the opening goal. The ball had been played right from the back in typical Swansea fashion when it was played out to Montero who took one touch and delivered a perfect cross which Andre Ayew guided perfectly with his head into the back of the net.

The Liberty was alive and the Swans were winning, the exact boost that they needed after a four game run that had seen us slip down the league.

The lead though didn’t last long and it was a cheap goal really. Eriksen lined up to take a free kick after a foul by Fernandez and his ball found its was through a hole in the wall and past a static Fabianski to bring the visitors level.

The Swans looked shocked and for a couple of minutes we were clearly second best in the game but we soon managed to restore a lead thanks to a massive dollop of luck. Montero (again) earned us a corner and as Shelvey played it in it was sliced into the back of the net by Harry Kane to restore the Swans lead.

The second half was a hugely entertaining encounter as both sides went in search of further goals but it was another superb free kick from Eriksen that was the only goal of the half as he curled the ball into the far corner to bring Spurs level.

It was a blow for the Swans who had been looking to extend their lead at that point but it was probably a goal that Spurs deserved on the overall balance of play through the game.

Eriksen came close again for Spurs as did Dier as they looked to extend their lead whilst Gylfi, Fernandez and Ki all came close for the Swans but there was to be no more additions to the scoring and the game ended 2-2 as the Swans extended their unbeaten home record to five games,

It was a much better performance from the Swans and one more in keeping of the early weeks of the season and one that we need to remember when we return from the international break against Stoke in two weeks.
