Allen was signed for Liverpool shortly after Rodgers departed the Liberty himself for the North West in what was a club record deal at the time of รยฃ15m.
Allen has never really been able to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Liverpool and whilst he has not been helped by injuries it was suggested very early on in Klopp’s reign that there would be a clear out at the club and Allen would be one of the players who would suffer as a result.
Klopp has been charged with turning around fortunes at Liverpool, 25 years without a league title, and his first transfer window will open in January where there is expected to be much activity at the club as he works on how he wants his team to shape up.
Rodgers spent much money during his tenure there but was widely criticised for the quality of the players that he brought in and several of them are expected to be victims of the Klopp clear out.
Allen though wants the chance to stay and show the new manager what he is capable of รขโฌลWhen a manager leaves a club everything is up in the air for the players” Allen told the Liverpool Echo
รขโฌลYou have to wait to see who comes in next, what sort of style he plays and if thereรขโฌโขs a place for you in his plans.
รขโฌลIรขโฌโขm confident the things heรขโฌโขs looking to bring into the team are things I pride myself on and Iรขโฌโขm looking forward to getting down to some hard work to make sure Iรขโฌโขm part of the new era.
รขโฌลItรขโฌโขs almost like the reset button has been pressed for everyone at the club and weรขโฌโขve got a clean slate to re-focus and try to impress him so we can be part of his plans.”
As it stands at the moment, the centre of midfield is one of the areas where the Swans probably don’t need strengthening and it is difficult to see whether Allen would return whether the exit door at Anfield opens or not.
He was of course a valuable part of the side that got us to this level and kept us here in the first season but since then we have moved on with the likes of Cork, Ki, Shelvey and Sigurdsson all at the club you just do not know where Allen would fit in.
Garry Monk of course will know him well having played alongside him for several seasons but the link between Allen and us is a lazy one for me and I cannot see it happening no matter what the view of Liverpool’s new manager is on the player.
