GUTTED: Much Improved Swans Beaten At Ethiad

It looked for all the money that the Swans had secured the point that they fully deserved (if not more) when Bafetimbi Gomis powered his shot past Joe Hart in the last minute of normal time after a superb through ball from Federico Fernandez.

The goal had been the least that the Swans deserved and the fact that the stadium announcer told us that Joe Hart was the man of the match says much about the way that the game went today with the Swans creating plenty and desperately unlucky to trail for so long thanks to a header from our former striker Wilfried Bony.

But with the celebrations not really having died down there was a massive stroke of luck for the home side when Yaya Toure’s shot was deflected over his own team mate and it looped up over Fabianski into the back of the net to prove that when things are going against you then they really go against you.

The Swans matched their hosts in terms of total efforts at goal but with seven on target we pretty much eclipsed the total of shots on target we have managed in the last three to four games which tells you much about where we improved on the pitch today.

Add to that some massive improvements in individual performances led by the absolutely exceptional Wayne Routledge and typified by the brilliant way in which Gomis finished his chance and there is much positivity we can take into the two home games that will follow this one.

All credit here must go to Alan Curtis for the way he had the team performing but it frustrates me more that the players that looked so lethargic in recent weeks looked so sharp today and that does not come purely from three days since a managerial change. Some players badly let themselves and us down in recent weeks and must take their share of the blame for where we currently find ourselves.

But the main part is we are back in the hunt and I can firmly now believe that we have the capability and fight to beat West Ham and West Brom in the next two games and that would make the league position look very different indeed.

Well done lads a good performance and take the plus points forward
