Swans Beaten At Manchester United

Rooney flicked in Martial’s ball across the area not long after Gylfi Sigurdsson had headed home a Mo Barrow cross to bring the Swans back level.

After a largely forgettable first half the second half was littered with chances for both sides with the home side having the better of them and getting the result that they wanted in the end. They were given the perfect start to the second half when Martial’s downward header converted Ashley Young’s cross in the second minute of the half to lift the atmosphere at a tense Old Trafford.

It was harsh on the Swans to be behind as both sides had toiled for the first half of the game but it was a goal that opened up the encounter with the Swans starting to push on a little bit more and with the introduction of Barrow they were given extra room to play and it was his pace that certainly worried the home defence.

There was therefore no surprise when it was his cross that led to the Swans equaliser as he turned and picked out Gylfi with a perfectly weighted cross to bring the Swans back level and spark thoughts of a fourth successive come from behind win against our hosts.

We almost had the chance to build on that goal soon afterwards but the ball would not drop for either Gylfi or Ayew and we were punished soon afterwards by the Rooney goal that was probably not as worthy as the OTT reaction of the commentators to it.

That said it was well finished and not much that we could have done to prevent it. We came close twice to an equaliser after that particular goal and on both occasions it was from unlikely sources.

Ashley Williams drew a good save from De Gea with a shot from outside the area with just a minute to go and with the very last touch of the game Lukasz Fabianski headed just wide from a Sigurdsson corner having joined the attack with a view to getting the equaliser.

It was not to be though and the Swans now look to the next two league games – at home to Sunderland and Watford knowing that two wins are essential in the fight against relegation.
