It’s Not Working Though Lukasz

It has long since been the thorn in a Swansea side that we conceded sloppy goals from set pieces and Saturday was a classic example of that having seen the opening goal of the game scored from a corner where we seemingly unmarked half of the Hull attacking threat.

It was no real surprise to most Swans fans watching on as we have suffered similar problems for many years and when you analyses the goals that we conceded a number that is far too high comes from a set piece and it should be something we should definitely be reducing even if we are unable to eradicate them altogether.

Fabianski is right in that sometimes you get unlucky and sometimes you are undone by good play but it happens far too often in our defence and not enough in our attack for it to be purely a coincidence or the result of good play from the opposition.

“We can not go crazy about it because we can’t be talking about set-pieces after every single game,” Fabianski told the BBC.

“We can be lucky or unlucky, sometimes you have to credit the opposition.”

He continued: “We need to make smart conclusions.

“We are hard on ourselves, we have to be smart. But I don’t think we should panic or something.

“Sometimes it’s purely about luck. Sometimes you have to say well done to the opposition for the set-piece because it worked well for them.

“We do work hard on them. We spend a lot of time in training on offensive and defensive set-pieces,” he said.

“We just want to continue to work on it, continue to improve and to prepare, because we always analyse the opposition and how they operate on set-pieces.

“We’re trying and hopefully it can work well for us.”

It is probably true that we do practice them in training but because we are so bad at them attacking wise we defend them easily and walk away thinking that the problem is solved.

It is by far for me the biggest achilles heel that we have as a team and something we do need to work on so – panic or not – if we are working on them then it is reasonably clear that we need to work on them some more if we can please!
