Swansea City 1 Liverpool 2 – Penalty Costs Swans Again

It was much more clear cut than the penalty that put us behind against Manchester City last week but it did lead to the defeat that we had hoped to avoid and with two weeks to go until the next game you cannot help but wonder who will lead the Swans at Arsenal in two weeks.

Such has been the shambolic way that the Swans have handled the speculation around their manager and the fact that we have already spoken to new managers makes you wonder whether the result itself would make any difference to a man who has shown so much dignity in the past few weeks.

It all felt so good when Leroy Fer was on target during the early stages of the game to give the Swans a boost that we do badly needed. And had Borja Baston finished off a perfect Gylfi Sigurdsson free kick – as he probably should have done the Swans would have gone into the break with a two goal advantage that may well have been deserved following our first half endeavours.

We battled hard in the first half, pressed Liverpool high up the pitch and the truth was that Fabianski was very much a spectator for much of the first half as we looked to record a first Liberty Stadium success of the season and a first league win since the opening weekend.

You know though that Liverpool will not be passengers for long and during the second half they pushed on more and more and the Swans retreated deeper into their own territory. The change that saw Ki and then Fulton replace Britton and Fer were changes that stopped any chance we had of midfield supremacy and it looked for much of the second half that it was very much a case of when the goal was coming rather than if.

Goals from Firmino who beat the offside flag to head the equaliser and a late penalty from James Milner were the two crucial moments but Liverpool controlled the second half and could have had more if it were not for good defending at times from the Swans and the final pass just lacking from our visitors.

There is every chance we could go into the international break in the relegation zone given the performance and even at this relatively early stage of the season there is a gap starting to open up between those at the bottom and 1 point from the last 18 will do nothing to ease the feeling that we have at the moment.

Will there be a managerial change? Sadly I think there will be but if it happens then those that make these decisions should take a long hard look at themselves as well and realise that much of what made us special over the last decade or so has been eroded away through a series of bad decisions and greed.
